The cellar alley

Hustopeče had available first-class vineyard slopes and local wine growing and making was closely connected with Brno. In 1365, Brno citizens owned one third of vineyards in Hustopeče.

At the present time, the wine growers and makers of Hustopeče use cellar colonies in two town locations: the street Na Hradbách and Pod Křížovým kopcem. The tourists may admire the architecture of old and new cellars as well as to taste the great wines. It is worth to see a round bastion in the street Na Hradbách (not far from crossing with Herbenova street) – it is a residual of the original town fortifications and you can see a bakery heraldry there as well.

Coopery corporation press house was recorded as early as in the beginning of the 15th century. The town used to have its own court – there was not any possibility of appeal against its resolutions. It was placed at the location of current savings bank – you can see the original stone heraldry in the facade even now. The court chairmen called perkmistr was authorised to supervise vineyards, he set the beginning of works in vineyards, he collected the churchshot and closed the vineyards. The only documented execution of the capital punishment according to the wine court in our country was performed in Hustopeče in 1610 to punish grapes stealing.
